Improving Water Access and Reducing Flood Risks in Hittin Camp

At Habitat for Humanity Jordan, everyone deserves a safe, healthy place to live.

In Hiitin Palestinian Camp (Schneller), we work with the community to improve daily life for over 12,000 people, including Palestinians and Jordanians, by upgrading shared spaces, creating local jobs, and supporting long-term solutions that improve health, safety, and dignity.

This project, funded by Tithe through Habitat for Humanity, focuses on providing safe, sustainable water access and reducing flood risks for families living in the camp.

How We Work?

We partner with local organizations, residents, and workers to understand community needs and deliver practical, lasting improvements. We also ensure that vulnerable groups—such as women-headed households, persons with disabilities, children, and the elderly—benefit most from the changes.

What  We do?

We are improving infrastructure that supports better water access, reduces flooding, and helps homes and public spaces function better, especially during winter.

Key Activities

  • New Drainage System Installation: Building a rainwater drainage system in the informal market area to manage heavy rain and prevent water buildup.
  • Manhole and Grate Repairs: Rehabilitating Street drainage points throughout the camp to improve water flow and reduce flood risks.
  • Household Water Upgrades: Fixing home water networks by upgrading tanks, float valves, and connection lines to reduce water loss and ensure reliable water access.
