A Safer Home, a Stronger Mother
Rasha has been fighting breast cancer for the past two years, enduring the pain of treatment while carrying the full responsibility for her family. She lives with her husband, who has a mobility impairment, and their three children: Zaid (16), Lain (15), and Rayan (7). In addition to caring for her family, Rasha is also the primary caregiver for her elderly and ill mother-in-law, who lives with them in the same home. Financial difficulties forced Rasha to make the heartbreaking decision to take her children out of school. “I couldn’t even provide for their education,” she shared.

During her chemotherapy sessions, Rasha often worried about leaving her children at home, feeling uneasy about their safety. She would rely on her neighbor to stay with them, as the internal door in the house did not provide privacy or security. “I didn’t like going home after chemo sessions. The house didn’t feel safe or comfortable, and the door inside wasn’t secure,” she said.
The home itself had serious issues: a leaking kitchen, damp walls, and a bathroom with a dangerously weak ceiling. Privacy was also a concern, as the children shared rooms without separation.
With Habitat’s Jordan team’s support, the necessary repairs were made. The bathroom was fixed, dampness treated, and a new internal door installed to ensure the family’s safety and privacy. After the improvements, Rasha felt a huge relief: “Thank God, the house is safe and comfortable now. I feel at peace, and I can finally relax.”
Despite her health struggles and the family’s challenges, Rasha’s resilience shines. She continues to care for her children, finds joy in small moments, and values the support of her neighbors, who she describes as “my second family.”
