Habitat for Humanity Jordan (HFHJ) is proud to be featured in a newly published report by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), developed under the Roadmaps for Energy Access in Displacement Settings (READS) Programme. The report explores scalable solutions to improve sustainable energy access for Jordan’s displaced populations and host communities.
The recognition places HFHJ alongside leading humanitarian organizations such as UNHCR, NRC, and Mercy Corps. It highlights HFHJ’s innovative work in advancing energy-efficient and climate-resilient housing solutions. The report also features three images from HFHJ’s recent projects and showcases our contributions in the following key areas:
Building for the Future
HFHJ’s Home Equals initiative is acknowledged as a model of sustainable shelter design and delivery. The report emphasizes our commitment to constructing energy-efficient homes, retrofitting existing shelters, and promoting green building practices to enhance the living conditions of vulnerable communities.
Home Rehabilitation for Displaced Families
The Middle East Refugee Crisis Initiative (MERCI) is recognized for its critical role in upgrading shelters for displaced families, contributing to long-term stability and improved well-being.
Promoting Green Homes
Supported by HFH Netherlands, this project advances sustainable practices across Jordan by empowering low-income households and communities to adopt environmentally friendly housing solutions.
By identifying key stakeholders, assessing current programs, and recommending pathways for scale, the UNITAR report supports progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
This recognition affirms HFHJ’s leadership in sustainable housing and reinforces our mission to drive meaningful, community-led transformation in Jordan and across the MENA region.
